Polyamorists Want to Put the "P" Into "LGBT"

Image
What does it mean to be apart of the LGBT community? They have even gone as far as "LGBTQIA". Most of the 'initialed' community has a common denominator: sexual orientation, gender identity or an advocate or alliance -- people who support our rights. But what happens when someone wants to add to the mix? What happens when someone who is polyamorous wants to add the "P" into the "LGBTQIA"? First off, let me just explain what all of these terms are. There are many people who do not know what LGBT or polyamory stands for. So bear with me. What is polyamory? Polyamory -- (from Greek πολύ poly, "many, several", and Latin amor, "love") is the practice, desire, or acceptance of intimate relationships that are not exclusive with respect to other sexual or intimate relationships, with knowledge and consent of everyone involved. Basically, non-monogamy. So what does the entire "LGBTQIA" stand for? Lesbian – A female-...

Deleterious Effects

Image
Many people think progress was made. Many people haven't heard the slew of comments and derogatory statements made toward the LGBT community for their request for equal rights. I have sought through threads on Facebook, debates on Twitter and even sadly, some very well known people who seem to be in line with siding with those who do not agree with the homosexual lifestyle. One republican named, Dave Agema. He listed some "statistics" about homosexuality. Some of it reads, "Part of the homosexual agenda is to turn people from Christianity: The teaching that only male-female sexual activity within the bounds and constraints of marriage is the only acceptable form should be reason enough for any homosexual to denounce the Christian religion." Well, I'm Christian and never tried to turn anyone away from their religion just because I wanted the same rights with my wife. I'm not sure where he gets his statistics. Another statement reads, "Homosexuals l...

"Soon They'll Want to Marry Their Pets" --Antigay Christian

Image
It truly amazes me how some people view gays and lesbians. Since yesterday, I have been reading threads upon threads on mostly those who agree that the LGBT community should be able to marry the person they love. I have also read comments from those opposing marriage equality. For instance, one man stated, "Well, if you let this sort of thing happen, then 'other groups' will want to marry. It will happen." What other groups? As I read further into other angry posts, another person said that some people will want to marry their relatives, underage minors (pedophiles) and even went as far to say pets. The more I read these outrageous responses from your typical 'everyday normal citizens' --- I actually wondered what the people around me really thought of it. You know, years ago if you said something positive about the gay community, or dare I say - you were gay in a company that was a bit more conservative, you could have been fired for it. Now, it's mor...

Get Your Interpretation of Religion Out of My Marriage

Image
So your religion says that "gay marriage" will ruin the sanctity of marriage. Your religion says that two men together or two women together is an abomination to God. Your religion tells you a whole lot of things. Your religion also tells you to steer clear from shellfish. Your religion tells you that you shouldn't shave your beard. Your religion forbids you to have tattoos. Your religion tells you that premarital sex is a sin and yet you don't follow your religion's rules, but you're okay with judging other people's lives, and you're also okay with ruining other people's lives by instilling your religion and 'thought to be' morals upon other people's relationships. You want to stop gays and lesbians from marrying, while the sanctity of marriage has already been ruined by many straight people, including celebrities and those who take marriage for granted. You seem to be okay with the fact that so many people get a divorce over the sl...

Small Minds, Small World

Image
For a few years, I've followed this person who goes by " Dartell " on Twitter and had some interesting conversations with her. She had insight, seemed intelligent and was very friendly. She's a black woman in her early 30's I'm guessing with extensive political views. But lately, her political views have taken a turn into the dark side. At first, I thought she was just retweeting a few borderline racist posts. Ok, she hates Obama - which is fine, but accusing him of being Muslim and sending billions of dollars to terrorists seems a bit much. She is highly against Islam. In one post, she added a photo of a man holding a knife to his neck and states, "Muslim threatens to slice his neck. Hell WTH is he waiting for...ISLAM IS A CULT. )0v0(." Another tweet includes this: "Islam's War on Women. Egyptian Islamist Imam Says Tahrir Female Protesters are “Crusaders” Who 'Want to be Raped'." Other tweets involve incidents that include Is...

I'm Voting

Image
Our good friend Jill had posted something very heartfelt concerning her political views on Facebook. There was a big difference compared to everybody else's though: I have never seen such a personal and touching stance on politics---ever. I have never been convinced that either presidential candidate would ever change the way society truly feels about marriage equality, which is why I was so undecided about who to choose. I also don't rely on my lifestyle and personal life to dictate who I will vote for. I usually vote for who is best for the economy (in my opinion and from learning through others) which ultimately affects all of us,   and who will protect our country. I've been so undecided for so long, until now. I haven't had anyone truly make a dent with their side of the coin on swaying me to either side. They've all made great points and while I nodded my heads a few times, there wasn't anything so inspiring, so loving and so so personal as this one....

Don't Like Gay Marriages? Don't Get One...

Image
There is a big difference between "like" and "agree". For instance, I had a woman on my Facebook account write a quote from Rick Warren that stated, "Our culture has accepted two huge lies. The first is that if you disagree with someone's lifestyle, you must fear them or hate them. The second is that to love someone means you agree with everything they believe or do. Both are nonsense. You don't have to compromise convictions to be compassionate."  This is just like saying, if you "disagree" with blacks intermarrying with whites. It's not a matter of "agreeing" --- if you don't like something --- don't pipe in on what others prefer to do or how they want to live. It's none of your business to agree or not to agree. You can dislike it all you want. But what about disliking the Kardasian's wedding, Tiger Woods or Newt Gringrich's lifestyle? Just because all were straight - then yes - they're all accep...

National Same Sex Kiss Day at Chick-fil-A

Image
Seriously? No wonder why so many conservative Christians think all homosexuals are perverts. Isn't there a better way to demonstrate your opposition instead of kissing random demonstrators of the same sex at an establishment that you're protesting at? The people who are going to be protesting today are the same people who give all gays and lesbians a bad name. They make people automatically think "SEX" when they hear anything regarding the gay and lesbian community. We're more than just showing a little PDA - we're loving companions, best friends, family units --- not just sex partners. I voiced my opinion on my Facebook page and a friend said, "I'll have a herpes chicken sandwich with a side of cold sores." This is only saying one thing: "Hey Chick-fil-A, you're right! We are sinful, promiscuous homosexuals that shouldn't be able to marry because we love kissing random people of the same sex." (The kissing part optional.)  ...

Openly Opinionated

Image
Recently I had asked someone, “Is it me? What am I doing wrong?” I seem to find myself in circles of dramatic consequences, and when it comes to the final blow, I end up sitting and thinking, “What the hell happened?” For example, five years ago when I started this blog, I wrote mostly about gay & lesbian rights, debating with those who were Christian fundamentalists trying to win out a “belief”, or even, an “opinion” about whatever. Nobody won. It was a never-ending pissing contest. I became more opinionated and in my head, “strong-minded”. I thought, well it’s my blog and I can write whatever I’d like. But, what I didn’t realize, is that it then trickled into my own personal affairs, having to be opinionated to the point of combative. No one’s opinions were valid. I was right. End of story. Five years down the road, I figured it out. No one else could explain my dilemma of why I seem to butt heads with certain people. God forbid I come across ‘one of my own’ ---it’s just re...

Is Bisexuality Is Better Than Homosexuality?

In a previous post , I had mentioned a disagreement I had with a friend who happens to be African-American, who voted for Proposition 8. She said that it was important that marriage should be sacred for only a man and a woman. In the video below, Olbermann explains how at one time blacks weren’t able to marry white people, and in fact, they weren’t even allowed to marry each other back in the times of slavery. This very same person who voted for Proposition 8 also wanted to be intimate along with Madelene and myself, because she thinks all gays and lesbians are promiscuous. She’s bisexual, so it really didn’t matter, right? We graciously declined and she was very offended. People have this sense of homosexuality being perverted, promiscuous and/or dirty. Two people of the same sex who love one another are just the same as those who are heterosexual. Both heterosexuals and homosexuals can be just as promiscuous, and yet both can be loving and monogamous, if all are being view...

Love Is Love

Image
There are many who are having their own psychological warpath to insanity through their extreme religious views and the maximum about of judgment passed onto other people. I recently just read something really saddening. A blogger stated that he was “pleased” with this article , demonstrating that The Kentucky Court of Appeals strongly rebuked an activist lower family court for allowing a lesbian woman to illegally adopt her female companion's child, in clear violation of both Kentucky law and the Kentucky state constitution. This blogger said it was “good news”. The article also mentions this: “… The higher court reaffirmed that in Kentucky, stepparent adoptions are only legal when the stepparent is married to a biological parent. The court also reaffirmed that marriage can only exist between one man and one woman. These state laws ban adoption by homosexuals because the best interest of children is served by placing them in homes with a mom and a dad or where there is a likelih...

Are Homosexuals Just "Playing House"?

Image
That’s what it is to them. We’re basically “playing house”, in hopes for Mr. Right to come along and sweep us off our feet. We’re not fit to be parents. We’re not fit to be married. We’re not fit to be treated as humans. We’re not real; we’re “fake”. This is how the gay and lesbian community feels when they hear Mitt Romney speak. He says that he’s opposed to gay marriages, because it’s not in the best interest of children. Marriage isn’t all about baby making. It’s about love, commitment, loyalty, friendship and companionship with whomever you love, whether male or female. It’s about taking care of one another and uniting as a “family”, whether you’re childless or with children. I remember once being in a circle of girls talking about relationships. This is going back a few years ago. One person said something about how she wasn’t able to go out like she used to with her girlfriends, and that her boyfriend would get jealous if she ever stepped foot out of their apartment. I chi...

A Public Apology and a Public Restroom

Image
Isaiah 51:12-13 I, even I, am the one who comforts you. So why are you afraid of mere humans, who wither like the grass and disappear? Yet you have forgotten the Lord, your Creator, the one who put the stars in the sky and established the earth. Will you remain in constant dread of human oppression? Will you continue to fear the anger of your enemies from morning till night? This scripture from Isaiah jumped out at me this morning while praying. I feel stressed out and tired. I’ve been distant from God these past couple of weeks, when in fact, I should be drawing closer to Him since I am writing a new book. My focus is on other things instead. I’ve been defending myself way too much, and it’s coming up to the surface. I’m sure you’ve noticed. A lot of you are right. I have been spending way too much time on other people, trying to defend my happiness or {pride} of who I am. A reader of mine named Kevin , was very offended by my words on another website. I explained that the word “prid...
