Living Proof

Maybe some of you who are reading this are saying to yourselves, "Oh no. Not another negative religious post in self-defense."  Well, yes and no. "YES" because I have come to the conclusion that the people who are against the LGBT community who rant about how sinful our lifestyles are.....are absolutely crazy. And "NO" because I am taking a much needed break from the craziness of it all. And I'll tell you why: nobody hones in on just one thing and tears is apart until it is completely dead who isn't already  spiritually dead themselves. The other day I received a very disturbing email. I mean -- I've received some top of the line disturbing emails, but this one struck me differently. It was like a cry for help. I'll just post some of it below without revealing his name, only because this poor guy has a rap sheet longer than the ancient scrolls of the Bible. Your children are a  product of your beliefs. Sometimes, when I defend the LGBT community from religious "stones" being thrown at them, I get, 'well why bother' or 'who cares' and of course, 'it's a battle you'll never win with those kind of people'. In a sense, it's kind of true. You will never win a battle or convince anyone otherwise of changing their core beliefs. But what about having our LGBT youth have someone or an organization that does say the opposite of what these ill informed religious people spew off? Whenever a celebrity like when Phil Robertson from Duck Dynasty comes out with their rigid thoughts on homosexuality, I speak my mind. I will always speak my mind and retort when a misinterpreted scripture is used to literally bash gays and lesbians with feelings of guilt, condemnation, insults, demeaning terms used for young ladies, as Phil Robertson demonstrated.  Words that only tear down and destroy spirits is blamed on...

It makes me very sad to think that there are people out there still in the closet, afraid to come out and tell their family and loved ones that they're gay or lesbian. There can be many factors why someone would stay quiet about their sexuality. For me, the people I surrounded myself in the past would make derogatory remarks, like, "Eww, gross! That girl's a lesbian," or "She's a lesbo," --those types of things. I even heard someone mutter out, "But she's so pretty, why would she resort to dating women when she can get any man she wants?" So being a "lesbian" meant that the person wasn't "pretty enough" to have a boyfriend. And in this case, if she was pretty, then it just didn't make sense. "She mustuv' got hurt by some guy." Here's the thing --- what a dreadful life to live if your life cannot be lived to its fullest. What a dreadful life it would be if you couldn't be. ..you. How awful...
