Has religion destroyed us? For years, religions all over the world have separated people from coming together. Christians separate themselves with the various types of sins each person commits. Forgiveness has been forgotten. Love is something that ended up being conditional; unlike what 1rst Corinthians 13:4-7 has to say about it. We’ve deemed everyone judgmental, intolerant or hypocritical if their beliefs aren’t the same as ours. But how can you tell if someone is giving you good advice as a Christian over the other? I believe it’s by words, which are Christ-like. It’s the actions, which are Christ-like. Your words will fall upon deaf ears, if you speak with a forked tongue, or lash out with profanity while speaking about God and Christian-related matters. Jesus never did any of this with his techniques of teaching. The words you choose show your true character. Of course, we all get angry at times and say strong-worded phrases to get our point across, but when someone starts spew...

The other night, I watched Flight 93, about the 9/11 hijacking. It brought back some painful and unnerving memories, as I remembered every single minute of how that day unfolded. We rarely speak of Flight 93’s tragedy and head right into the deep horror of the two planes that flew right into both towers of the World Trade Center. Each hijacker had such a love for their God, that they were not only willing to kill others, but they were ready to take their own lives for their God. It’s a scary concept to fathom. The assailing images of this movie raised my blood pressure. The reasoning behind their motives was a reminder of what goes on in any religious holy war. The determination to kill for your God is a total contradiction, just as some would feel that being a gay Christian is a contradiction to the Christian doctrine. We believe what we believe. When we hear the message of God from other Christians, we must keep in mind that there are many beliefs within the religion of Christianity...

The best effective way to get a message across, is to be compassionate, patient and understanding of whatever response you’ll receive in return. When speaking about religious matters, people have to realize that religion is based on “faith”- not fact. For instance, if I was trying to feed a baby that mushy banana food, and he didn’t like it, I can’t cram the food down the baby’s throat. He’ll simply close his mouth and cry. The best way is to find a different approach. Maybe he’ll like the peach stuff better. Force-feeding anyone will result in a negative outcome. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure that one out. Dani and Mark , who profess to be Christians, feed their fellow believers with profanity if we don’t fully accept what we’re hearing from them. Has it reached a full two years since Dani and I have been debating over whether or not I am able to actually be a “Christian lesbian”? Regardless, we always seem to go over this topic. Sometimes, it’s dramatic and heated up. Other times, it can be a civil conversation between two adults who love God. The only difference is, Dani fully believes I don’t love God enough, because I refuse to transform into a heterosexual. Her belief, as many of you know, is that God intended to only join a man and woman for procreation. I can totally respect that, due to the bible not being so black and white. As unconventional Christian ways of thinking burst through my mind, some would say I have yet another theory I hold true to my heart that will always be debated. If God made this earth, then why can’t there be belief in both God and evolution? I know both aren’t shared in the same capacity, however, if you really think about it, things grow, change, develop and evolve all the time. Evolution in the negative aspect can be seen with manmade deterioration of the earth and atmosphere. Chemicals, factories, exhaust from transportation, have all contributed to the destruction of our ozone layer, leaving many things on this earth to change, or ‘evolve’ in different ways over time. Glaciers are melting at a faster rate due to global warming. The earth is seeing much more weather-related damage- earthquakes, tsunamis and even erosion from all the World War 1-era military munitions on Long Beach Island. People of all races, religions, sizes, backgrounds, personal opinions will tell you a different theme on how they view faith and how they individually practice worshipping their God(s). Reasons associated with childhood, structure, limitations, as well as fear have most people staying within the boxed in lines. They’re scared to learn, afraid of influences of the world, and most of all, influences of their own mind and their own inner spirit. I’ll even go as far to say that as children, we have been all brainwashed with a theory, a “truth”, a belief system, or a lack thereof. Most cling to that belief system, and very few people jump outside that box, to find out what God really wants them to do. Worshipping God is a personal thing. Some like to meditate before prayer time. Others simply enjoy walking out in nature to experience God’s beautiful creations. Some, will go to a church to congregate with others.
