Most of us adapt to our cultural backgrounds and even current influences. Most influences are cultivated by our own relation to whatever we were brought up to believe in. But what if your core beliefs were shaken up a bit? What if God came down to earth and said, "You got it all wrong! Why did you solely rely on words that men wrote? Some of that wasn't inspired by me." How would you look at the world? This is the very first time that Rachel and Laurel Bowman-Cryer spoke out about the owners of Sweet Cakes Bakery in Oregon. The story is sort of making more sense as it all comes to a head. Rachel's mother was getting remarried back in 2009. They had ordered a cake from Melissa Klein, the owner of Sweet Cakes and said it was "to die for". Everything was a success. I guess in passing conversation (small talk) -- Klein mentioned she would love to cater for them again if need be. Melissa Klein is in business -- she wasn't socializing. Every business owner will encourage people to use them again. That's totally normal. But what happened here was a bit different. Melissa Klein didn't realize that Rachel had a female partner. Fast forward 2013, Rachel and her mother went into Sweet Cakes to cater for Rachel and Laurel's upcoming wedding. She was greeted by Melissa Klein's husband, Aaron.  Rachel tells the story below... Miserable people. What makes them so discontent with life and everyone around them? There's a lot of truth when they say that misery loves company. Some feel jaded that their lives are so miserable, that they want to make yours miserable as well. I find that more people come together when they hate something more than they do when they like something. Maybe it's addicting to be a miserable bastard. I learned that most miserable people don't like themselves at all. Their love tank is on "E" and there is nothing left for them to give to anybody else. It's also true that whatever you hate in somebody else, is what you hate about yourself. There has to be some connection you relate to in order for those intense feelings to surface. Indiana's Religious Freedom Restoration Act has become one of the most controversial topics on social media. It thrives upon the First Amendment rights, yet it leaves some people feeling bitter and outraged about the underlining tones of feeling discriminated against. So for instance, if a gay couple wants to buy a cake for their wedding, they can be turned down. Ok, fine -- go to another baker who will do it. But is it really fine? Can they take their religious stance a bit further and discriminate against other people as well? They're setting us back 50+ years with this type of mindset.  So if 'this bakery' stands firm in their "freedom of religion" -- then so can the other bakery or florist down the road. Maybe a cafe wants to show their "freedom of religion" and ban gays and lesbians from entering their establishment too. Who knows -- the possibilities are endless.
